What you need to know today |
Happy Tuesday, L.A.
Coronavirus cases are on the rise in California, and like New York City, the state will require its employees and health care workers to show proof they’ve been vaccinated against COVID-19. Those who are not vaccinated will be subject to regular testing. It affects about 246,000 state employees.
Meanwhile, an Italian restaurant in Huntington Beach is going in the complete opposite direction. Owners posted signs that patrons will be required to prove they’re unvaccinated. Yes — UNvaccinated. The same restaurant stayed open when officials forced businesses to close in March 2020, and, after the mask mandate was ordered, the owners required diners to remove their masks before entering.
Gov. Gavin Newsom is sick of it. He compared choosing to remain unvaccinated to drunk driving, and he denounced Fox News host Tucker Carlson and other prominent right-wing figures for spreading misinformation about the coronavirus.
Enjoy, and please send any tips, feedback or thoughts to dailyla@commercialobserver.com.

“It’s a choice to live with this virus, and with all due respect, you don’t have the choice to go out and drink and drive and put everybody else’s lives at risk. That’s the equivalent of this moment with the deadliness and efficiency of the Delta [variant]. You’re putting other people’s, innocent people’s lives at risk.”
— Gov. Gavin Newsom |
